Scottsdale Pickleball Facility: PURE Pickleball & Padel, a massive 180,000-square-foot facility, will break ground in Scottsdale in 2025. Located off Loop 101 North near Topgolf Scottsdale and OdySea Aquarium, the complex will feature 50 courts, state-of-the-art amenities, and programs for players of all levels. This ambitious project is expected to open in 2026 and address the growing demand for pickleball in Arizona.
The facility’s prime location was a key factor for co-founders Kevin J. Berk and Brett Warner.
“You could not put a pin on a map in a better location than right here. Right off the 101. We are 15 minutes from the airport. We are 20 minutes from 3.3 million residents in Phoenix Metro.” – (Kevin J. Berk)
Meeting Demand in a Thriving Market
Arizona’s pickleball scene has seen rapid growth, but the Phoenix area ranks low in public court access. Scottsdale’s diverse and dedicated player base makes it the ideal spot for PURE.
“Scottsdale, Arizona, has got the best player community for the whole sport (compared to) anywhere else in the country.” – (Warner)
Warner praised the city’s commitment to the sport, saying,
“This is where you’ve got players all year long, 100-plus degree heat, they’re here at sunrise, they’re here after sunset. If something like this doesn’t work in Scottsdale, it’s not going to work anywhere.” – (Warner)
With 48 pickleball courts and two padel courts, the facility can accommodate 200 players at a time. In addition, plans include after-school classes, campus clinics, and opportunities for lessons to ensure accessibility for all skill levels.
Innovative Features for Players and Events
PURE Pickleball & Padel is designed to serve casual players and competitive events. The facility will offer memberships with designated courts and programming that extends beyond its walls.
Plans include rollout courts in the parking lot, a 5,000-person championship court, and a 1,200-person grandstand to host large tournaments and community events. Warner emphasized the community-centered vision for PURE.
“The vision for PURE is to find a way to connect the whole community around pickleball and to be able to bring people in who have never played. So, all ages, all skill levels.” – (Warner)
A Boost for Scottsdale’s Sports Landscape
In a city known for its vibrant sports and entertainment culture, including the WM Phoenix Open, PURE Pickleball & Padel adds another dynamic venue. Warner hopes the facility will combine sports, entertainment, and participation, creating a unique experience for players and spectators.
“If we can pull off something similar to (the WM Phoenix Open) for the sport of pickleball where it’s sports, entertainment and it’s participation, this is just the perfect time, perfect sport, perfect location.” – (Warner)
Scottsdale resident KC Whitaker welcomed the addition.
“It’s funny, when I first started playing, you could just walk out and get a court. It really wasn’t a problem, and now, especially in season, I mean, there’s a good amount of wait that comes along with that. So, any new facilities or anything like that opening up is going to be a real benefit to everybody because there’s more courts to play on.” – (KC Whitaker)
With its innovative design and focus on community, PURE Pickleball & Padel is set to become a cornerstone of Arizona’s pickleball scene, meeting demand and setting new standards for the sport.
