PURE Pickleball and Padel, a 180,000-square-foot indoor facility, is set to open in Scottsdale in 2026. Featuring 50 courts and cutting-edge amenities, it will provide a space for players of all skill levels to enjoy the sport year-round. The project, led by co-founders Kevin J. Berk and Brett Warner in collaboration with Caliber, is designed to meet the growing demand for pickleball in Arizona and create a hub for community engagement.
“This sport was invented by three families to play over the course of a summer with multiple generations; kids, parents, grandparents. But this is a sport when kids have a chance to play, they’re going to think it was invented for them.” – (Brett Warner)
Engaging the Next Generation
Recognizing the need to grow pickleball among younger players, PURE Pickleball and Padel plans to implement junior programs and collaborate with local schools. Students will participate in field trips, and the facility will offer childcare, after-school programs, and tutoring.
Warner emphasized the importance of introducing the sport to younger players.
“in many ways it was – and I feel like as the sport gets younger, it’s just one where everybody brings that next level of energy to the game.” – (Brett Warner)
Brent Weston, a pickleball player, has experienced the sport’s ability to connect people of all ages.
“So some of my best friends are 65 and retired now at this point in life, and I’m only 40. So at that point, you kind of see a whole new crop of athletes come out and enjoy the game. It’s a great sport for them.” – (Brent Weston)
A Social and Competitive Atmosphere
The facility will feature amenities that go beyond the courts, including event spaces, a rooftop bar, and plans for a championship court with a 5,000-person capacity.
PURE aims to create a community-centered space where players can connect and form lasting friendships. Berk and Warner believe the social facet of pickleball is one of its strongest appeals.
“Start playing pickleball now. This is one where you’re going to be able to play every day. You’re going to be able to play and meet new friends. You’re going to be able to play with your business partners. Start playing now.” – (Brett Warner)
Whitaker, a Scottsdale resident, noted how welcoming the pickleball community is.
“(The people are) very friendly. That was one thing I really liked about it. You can just show up at a court like (Cholla Park) and start playing.” – (Whitaker)
“You get welcomed in very easily by the community, and you start playing. You meet new friends. I have a ton of new friends ever since I’ve been playing pickleball, yet I can compete. It’s a sport, so I can compete.” – (Whitaker)
A State-of-the-Art Experience
The indoor facility will include cushioned courts to prevent injuries, broadcast-level lighting, and cameras to record matches. With its desert climate, Scottsdale players often face challenges using outdoor courts, but PURE’s indoor environment ensures safe, high-quality playing conditions.
“Everything is going to uniform, and it’s going to be built with the player experience at the center of the universe.” – (Berk)
Looking Ahead to 2026
PURE Pickleball and Padel promises to elevate the sport in Scottsdale with its focus on accessibility, innovation, and community engagement. Weston looks forward to returning to Scottsdale when PURE opens, while Whitaker hopes to be among the first to step onto the courts.
“You just need to show up, bring a paddle, and you’ll make a ton of friends. We can’t wait to welcome you in 2026.” – (Warner)
