Pickleball Courts in Pedro Benavides County Park: Two new pickleball courts are now open at Pedro Benavides County Park near Brownsville. County leaders celebrated the grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday morning. This project reflects the growing popularity of pickleball in the community.
Funding and Development
The project, costing $183,000, was initiated after Cameron County Commissioner Sofia Benavides recognized the increasing interest in pickleball.
“I found out that they [pickleball courts] were really spread all over. So, I went ahead and started working towards getting funding for one and this is the result of that.” – (Sofia Benavides)
The new facility includes two 20×40 courts, a canopy shade structure, rest areas, and picnic tables. The design aims to create a welcoming environment for players and spectators.
Community Engagement and Benefits
Commissioner Benavides emphasized the importance of community involvement in promoting active lifestyles.
“We want to ensure that everybody has an opportunity to come out here and enjoy themselves. These pickleball courts will provide a wonderful opportunity for our community to stay active and enjoy the outdoors.” – (Sofia Benavides)
Pedro Benavides County Park is located at 2055 S. Browne Ave. It offers various amenities, including sports fields, nature trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas, making it a great spot for families and individuals looking to enjoy outdoor activities.
