Poky Pickleball Indoor Facility to Open Soon: Jared Huckstep and Sterling Murdock are co-owners of Poky Pickleball, an indoor facility that will open in February. Located at 1800 Garrett Way, the facility will feature five pickleball courts, including one championship-sized court. This project aims to provide a dedicated space for pickleball enthusiasts to enjoy the sport year-round.
Creating a Community Space
Huckstep and Murdock began their pickleball journey in October last year. They quickly noticed a lack of suitable facilities for playing the game. Huckstep mentioned that existing courts often do not meet official standards, making it challenging to practice effectively.
“It’s gonna be fantastic for everybody that loves pickleball,” (Jared Huckstep).
The new facility will allow players to come together and play whenever they want, fostering a strong pickleball community.
From Idea to Reality
The two business owners met two years ago when Murdock visited Huckstep’s gun store, Hux Customs. They realized the need for an indoor pickleball facility and decided to combine their skills to make it happen. Murdock, who owns a property services company, knows how to build courts, while Huckstep has a passion for the game.
“It just makes business sense,” (Jared Huckstep).
They secured a deal with Westwood Mall at the end of November and began renovating the 14,000-square-foot space. With the help of family, friends, and a professional sheetrocking team, they are transforming the retail area into a vibrant pickleball center.
Facility Features and Plans
The new facility will include regulation-sized courts with an acrylic surface and spectator seating. Although pricing has yet to be finalized, Huckstep and Murdock plan to offer options for casual play or membership with various benefits. Additionally, they will host private events, with a versatile space that can be set up with tables and chairs for gatherings.
“We’ll have carpet that rolls out over top. You can book it for a whole private event if you want,” (Jared Huckstep).
As they continue to make progress, the excitement for the grand opening grows. Murdock expressed enthusiasm, saying,
“I’m thrilled. It’s slowly but surely coming together.”(Sterling Murdock)
Once they finalize the grand opening date, the owners will announce it on their Facebook page, inviting the community to celebrate this new addition to Poky’s recreational options.
