The Picklr to Boost Local Pickleball Community with a State-of-the-Art Pickleball Facility

The Picklr to Boost Local Pickleball Community: A new indoor pickleball facility is coming to Vestavia Hills. The facility, called The Picklr, will be located in the former Sprouts Farmers Market space on U.S. 31, across from City Hall. The Denneys, a local real estate development couple, are behind the project. They hope the new facility will meet the growing demand for pickleball in the area.

The Picklr will feature 10 pickleball courts inside the 28,000-square-foot building. In addition to the courts, the space will include a pro shop, a restaurant, and areas for local pickleball leagues, tournaments, and professional events. Construction is already in progress, with plans to open in mid-February or early March.

A Strategic Location

The Denneys’ company, Altera AIP-Vestavia, purchased the entire shopping center that houses the former Sprouts to gain control of the space. Patrick Denney said that complex financial arrangements made it difficult to lease the space from Sprouts, who had been paying lease fees since vacating the building in late 2018.

City Support for the Project

The Vestavia Hills City Council supported the project with an incentive agreement. This agreement includes a $300,000 initial investment to help with the project. The city also re-established non-educational sales and property tax rebates that were discontinued when Sprouts left. These rebates include a 50% share of the city’s tax revenue from the shopping center, which will last for 10 years.

The Impact of the Facility

The new facility will provide a much-needed space for local pickleball players and help grow the sport in Vestavia Hills. With the popularity of pickleball increasing nationwide, the Denneys believe their facility will attract both casual players and competitive athletes. The Picklr is expected to bring more attention and activity to the area, benefiting local businesses and the community.

As construction continues, the city and residents eagerly await the opening of this new sports hub in Vestavia Hills.
