Milton’s New Pickleball Courts: The Milton Community Center is set to open two new pickleball courts by the end of January, following the start of construction in mid-December. The courts are expected to meet the growing demand for the sport in the area.
Growing Demand for Pickleball
Currently, the community center offers pickleball inside on a basketball court, but space is limited. Milton Grants Manager Jacob Hullett explained that only three nets can fit on the basketball court at a time, making it difficult to accommodate all players. The new outdoor courts will provide more room for pickleball enthusiasts to enjoy the sport.
Resurfacing Tennis Courts
Along with the new pickleball courts, the city has also resurfaced the existing tennis courts. The courts have been updated with newly painted lines and nets, enhancing their usability for various sports.
Project Funding
The project is funded through a $104,000 grant from Florida’s Recreation Development Assistance Program, with an additional $35,000 provided by the city. This brings the total investment in the project to $139,000.
Hullett emphasized that the new courts will help encourage more physical activity and may even lead to tournaments that could attract visitors to the area.
Community Excitement
Milton resident Jeff Snow, a pickleball enthusiast, expressed excitement about the new courts. Snow, who was introduced to the sport by his wife, said he is eager to have more space to play.
“Love the sport. My wife got me into it, and I thought there’s no way but as a lot of people say, it’s very addictive once you get started,” (Jeff Snow).
Impact on the Community
The new courts at the Milton Community Center are expected to boost local participation in pickleball, a sport that has gained significant popularity. With additional space and better facilities, the city hopes to encourage more residents to be active and potentially host tournaments, further benefiting the area.
