The 7th Annual Chico Classic Pickleball Tournament will take place on April 26-27, 2025, at the Chico Pickleball Courts in Chico, California. Organized by a volunteer committee and presented by Northern California National Bank, the tournament aims to raise funds for True North Housing Alliance, a local nonprofit.
The tournament will feature men’s and women’s doubles on Saturday, April 26, and mixed doubles on Sunday, April 27. Players can register early from January 1 to February 15 for a discounted price of $55 per event, with the registration fee rising to $65 after February 15. A second event can be added for $25.
The event will be played on 16 permanent courts, with 8 resurfaced in 2024. All teams will play in round-robin formats, with the top four teams in each bracket advancing to medal matches. The number of brackets will be determined based on registration numbers, with age and skill levels used to divide competitors into groups. The Selkirk Pro S1 will be the official ball of the tournament.
Net proceeds from the tournament will support True North Housing Alliance, which provides housing services to individuals and families in need. In 2024, the tournament raised $21,000 for the cause after expenses.
Tournament Format and Brackets
The tournament follows a round-robin format with medal matches for the top four teams in each bracket. The final matches for gold, silver, and bronze will consist of one game to 15 points. Teams will play a minimum of four games, and brackets will range from 4 to 7 teams, depending on registration.
Age divisions will be created based on registration, but all teams will play in brackets that include age and skill levels. Players must sign up at the skill level of the higher-rated partner. Those with a PickleballBrackets.com rating must use that rating, while those with a DUPR rating will use the DUPR rating.
Support and Sponsorship Opportunities
The Chico Classic is a non-sanctioned outdoor tournament. Registration includes one event, and players who register by April 1 will receive a tournament T-shirt. Sponsors and volunteers are encouraged to get involved. The tournament offers various ways for local businesses and individuals to contribute, including sponsorship opportunities.
Community Impact
The Chico Classic continues to grow as a major event in the Chico community, bringing together pickleball enthusiasts while benefiting a worthy cause. The tournament provides a chance for local players to showcase their skills while supporting True North Housing Alliance. With over 240 players expected, the event is poised to make an even bigger impact this year.
