Grand Opening of Sussex County YMCA’s First Indoor Pickleball Center on January 15

Sussex County YMCA’s First Indoor Pickleball Center: The Sussex County YMCA is celebrating the grand opening of its new indoor Pickleball Center on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 12 p.m. Located at 11 Millpond Dr. in Lafayette, this center is the first of its kind in Sussex County and the first standalone indoor pickleball center operated by a YMCA in New Jersey.

A New Hub for Pickleball Enthusiasts

Richard K. Gorab, President and CEO of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges, expressed excitement about the new venue.

“We are thrilled to open this beautiful new venue in Sussex County. Our goal is to create a community hub for people to enjoy the sport, improve their skills, and make new friends,” (Richard K. Gorab).

The Pickleball Center officially opened its doors on Dec. 20, 2024, welcoming over 100 members. This state-of-the-art facility is dedicated to the rapidly growing sport of pickleball and aims to be a premier destination for players of all skill levels. Participants have access to six courts with a PickleRoll tournament-standard professional surface, court reservations through the Pickleball Den app, lessons and clinics, tournaments and league play, as well as skill ratings and assessments.

Community Focus and Support

Corey Brown, Executive Director of the Sussex County Y, highlighted the center’s community focus.

“Our center is not just about playing pickleball – it’s about fostering a sense of belonging and community,”. “We are committed to providing a space where everyone feels valued and supported.”(Corey Brown)

The design and project management for the Pickleball Center were handled by HQW Architects, with Berardi Construction as the construction company. Court sponsors include JAG Orthopedics and NJ Orthopedics, while the Macaluso Family sponsors the Welcome Center.

The opening of this facility marks a significant development for pickleball in Sussex County, providing a dedicated space for enthusiasts and newcomers alike to engage in this popular sport. With a range of activities planned, the YMCA aims to foster a strong pickleball community in the region.
