Riverhead Welcomes Box Pickleball: The new Box Pickleball facility in Riverhead is attracting attention, featuring nine lighted courts and a full-service restaurant. The venue opened last month and has welcomed around 600 visitors at 605 Old Country Road (Route 58), right in the town’s commercial center.

Box Pickleball aims to be a sports and social hub, offering members and non-members the opportunity to book courts for play. Members enjoy exclusive discounts and priority booking, while non-members can reserve courts starting at $40 per hour. Open play prices range from $25 to $30.

The facility is unlike anything else on Long Island, boasting a full-service restaurant and bar managed by Justin Tempelman, owner of JT’s Café in Blue Point. In addition to the pickleball courts, Box Pickleball includes a pro shop and changing rooms for guests.

The venue offers a range of activities, including youth pickleball programs, leagues, tournaments, and cornhole competitions. They also plan to host charity events that support local and national causes. Ownership is exploring options to introduce glow-in-the-dark pickleball and indoor bocce, expanding their entertainment offerings.
