Park City Set to Open New Indoor Pickleball Courts at Utah Film Studio

Pickleball Courts at Utah Film Studio: Park City is set to enhance its pickleball offerings after the Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for six indoor courts at the Utah Film Studio. The facility will be available for public play starting February 1, 2025.

Details of the New Facility

The approved indoor courts will be located in a 15,000-square-foot bay at Quinn’s Junction. The city’s Recreation Department proposed to operate the courts from February 1 through April 30 and again during the winters of 2025 and 2026.

Recreation Director Ken Fisher emphasized the temporary nature of the lease, stating that indoor play is most in demand during the winter months. The addition of these courts aims to address the growing interest in pickleball while alleviating pressure on existing tennis courts at the Park City Municipal Athletic & Recreation Center.

Balancing Demand for Court Time

The proposal comes as pickleball continues to gain popularity in Park City. The Recreation Department has been working to accommodate the rising demand for court time.

The six new courts will provide more opportunities for pickleball players and free up tennis courts for other users. According to a Planning Department report, the pickleball facility will help balance the needs of both sports while a more permanent solution is developed.

A Sport for Everyone

Pickleball, a sport combining elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, is suitable for players of all ages and skill levels. It is played on a court with paddles and a lightweight ball.

As the sport grows, Park City residents have requested more indoor facilities to accommodate their needs. The new pickleball facility will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the possibility of extended hours.

Community Support and Amenities

Under the proposal, the facility will include a temporary restroom and at least 30 parking spaces for players and staff. The existing building will not undergo any construction or footprint changes. The Utah Film Studio is located near the Park City Sports Complex, enhancing the recreational options in the area.

With the rapid growth of pickleball in the U.S., the introduction of these new courts reflects the community’s commitment to promoting health and wellness through sports. With statistics showing a significant increase in the number of pickleball players, the new facility is ready to meet the demand and further engage the community in this enjoyable and accessible sport.
