YMCA Gymnasium to Offer Pickleball: The Spurlino Family YMCA in Riverview celebrated the opening of its new 18,345-square-foot gymnasium with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 9, 2025. The event was attended by community leaders and Tampa YMCA representatives. The gym is set to enhance the YMCA’s programming and serve over 500 additional families.
Enhanced Programs and Facilities
The new gymnasium offers expanded space for the YMCA’s growing community needs. It will allow the facility to:
- Double Summer Camp Capacity: Accommodating 4,000 campers annually with more indoor, air-conditioned activities.
- New Sports Leagues: Introducing youth volleyball, pickleball leagues, and adult sports leagues.
- More Group Exercise Classes: Including boot camp, HIIT, family classes, and small group training.
- Pickleball Play: Increased hours for open play on four indoor pickleball courts.
- Event Space: Providing indoor space for various events, including family gatherings and business meetings.
Community Impact

Construction and Design
Creative Contractors of Clearwater completed the $6.6 million project. The building’s design was crafted by the well-known Tampa firm FleischmanGarciaMaslowski, which also designed the main Spurlino Family YMCA in 2018.
Special Membership Offer
The Spurlino YMCA and all Tampa YMCA locations are offering a limited-time special membership promotion. New members can join without a fee through January 15, 2025, and with only a $5 fee from January 16 through January 31.
The new gymnasium is located at 9650 Old Big Bend Rd. in Riverview and will provide significant benefits to local families, improving access to fitness, sports, and community events.
