Indoor Pickleball in Wilmington: Pickleball enthusiasts in Wilmington now have a dedicated place to play, thanks to the passion of a local husband and wife duo. Jason and Kayse Beasley, who fell in love with the sport just over two years ago, have opened Wilmington’s first-ever indoor pickleball facility, Pickle & Taps.
Pickleball, the fastest-growing recreational sport in the U.S., has seen explosive growth in recent years. The Sport and Fitness Industry Association reports a 200% increase in the sport’s participation over the last three years, and thousands of people in Southeastern North Carolina are now embracing the game.
A Vision for Indoor Play in Wilmington
For Jason Beasley, the idea for Pickle & Taps came during his travels. While visiting other cities, he noticed they had indoor pickleball courts that allowed players to continue their games even when the weather was bad. “In a lot of these different cities I visited, there were indoor options,” said Jason. “I thought, why don’t we have that in Wilmington?”
After seeing a need for an indoor space in Wilmington, Jason and his wife Kayse decided to take action. They transformed an old mill, formerly a t-shirt factory, into a vibrant facility that includes ten courts, a bar area, TVs, and cameras. The cameras not only capture recreational games but can also be used for coaching purposes.
A Place to Have Fun and Build Community
Pickle & Taps is designed to be more than just a place to play pickleball. “Our goal is that you come here and you have fun,” said Jason. “We want you to come back and bring your friends.” The Beasley’s vision for the facility is to create an accessible and fun environment for everyone in Wilmington to enjoy.
Jason and Kayse spent five months renovating the space, investing around half a million dollars into the project. The business is built on four core values: build, do the right thing, grow, innovate, and give back.
“It’s such a growing sport of people of all ages,” Jason said. “We have met friends through pickleball who will be friends for the rest of our lives.”
A New Staple in the Wilmington Community
Pickle & Taps isn’t just a sports facility – it’s a place for the community to come together. The Beasleys hope the facility becomes a staple in Wilmington, where people can enjoy pickleball while building lasting friendships.
Pickle & Taps is located at 1207 S 13th St. Visitors are encouraged to park for free along 13th Street or in the gravel areas behind the building. With its unique offering and focus on community, Pickle & Taps is sure to become a popular destination for pickleball lovers in Wilmington.
