Highlands Sports Complex Announces 2025 Schedule with Pickleball Tournaments and More

The Highlands Sports Complex in Ohio County is set to announce a naming sponsor for its fieldhouse by the beginning of 2025. The sports complex also plans to host 73 events throughout the year, including new activities like “Silent Disco” parties and Winter Fun Fest.

Naming Sponsor Expected by 2025

Harvey Greenidge, the general manager of the Highlands Sports Complex, confirmed that a naming sponsor for the fieldhouse is expected to be finalized in 2025.

The contract and sponsor details are yet to be revealed, and any agreements will need approval from the Ohio County Development Authority (OCDA).

Increased Events and New Activities in 2025

Highlands Sports Complex is set to host 73 events in 2025, up from 64 events the previous year. These include five volleyball tournaments, an indoor baseball tournament, and a partnership with local middle schools for the return of the “Shot In The PARK” archery tournament. Pickleball tournaments and soccer competitions are expected to return this year.

New activities include Tripp’s Fun Zone’s Winter Fun Fest on January 5, featuring a magic show and balloon animals. Additionally, “Silent Disco” parties for adults and teens are planned, where attendees wear headphones and control their own music. Greenidge hopes these new events will draw in more visitors.

Returning Events and Sponsorship Growth

Popular events from previous years, like the Wheeling Park High School VEX Robotics Tournament, will return in 2025. The tournament will expand to occupy the entire fieldhouse this year. However, the American Cornhole League event will not take place after the complex lost the bid to another venue.

The sports complex has also secured six new local sponsors, including McDonalds, Center Market, and West Liberty University.

Future Contracts and Community Impact

The current contract between Ohio County and the operator of the sports complex is nearing its end. Discussions about the contract were postponed in December but are expected to continue in January.
