New Pickleball Courts in Fillmore Enhance Local Sports Facilities

Pickleball Courts in Fillmore: Fillmore has welcomed new pickleball courts at the Fillmore Tennis and Swim Center. The conversion of one tennis court into two pickleball courts was completed recently. These courts, open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., are now available for public use.

Project Details

The project began on December 9 and was completed by January 8. The city’s council approved the project, which cost about $32,500. The funds for the conversion came from the American Rescue Plan Act. Initially, the courts were painted yellow and red, but after some feedback, they were repainted blue and green.

Community Excitement

Carrie Broggie, a Fillmore council member, is excited about the new courts. “I think it will be well used. I think the community will get on board with the whole pickleball parade like the rest of the country,” she said.

Council members and residents have expressed their support for the addition, and Interim City Manager Erika Herrera-Terriquez shared that the community is excited about the new facility.

Court Use and Guidelines

Players can use the courts on a first-come, first-served basis. However, they must bring their own equipment, and marking shoes are not allowed on the courts.

The courts are designed with the high school tennis season in mind and can be converted back to tennis courts when needed.

Impact and Future Use

The conversion of these courts is a significant step in bringing pickleball to Fillmore. The courts will remain available for pickleball most of the year, but they will be converted back for tennis use during the high school tennis season, from mid-August to late October. One tennis court remains open year-round.
