South Reno’s 3rd Shot Pickleball Facility Draws a Huge Crowd for Grand Opening

3rd Shot Pickleball facility, a new indoor pickleball facility in south Reno, opened to a sold-out crowd of over 600 people. The grand opening marks the success of the club, which already has plans to expand to meet the growing demand for indoor pickleball courts.

A Growing Business in Reno

3rd Shot Pickleball is located on Sierra Center Parkway and spans 28,000 square feet with nine courts. The facility quickly became popular, and co-owner Will Ratcliff noted, “Right away we were packed. I would love to have three more courts.”

The high demand is a reflection of the sport’s rapid growth in the U.S., where pickleball participation rose by over 223% from 2020 to 2024, according to USA Pickleball.

Ratcliff, who first picked up pickleball in 2015, decided to create a club for local players, filling a gap in the market. “There’s no other indoor pickleball courts in Reno, so there’s definitely a need in the market,” he said.

Facility Features and Construction

The building, previously a Fallas discount store, underwent significant renovations to become a state-of-the-art pickleball facility. This included new lighting, HVAC systems, court surfacing, and sound baffling. In addition to the courts, 3rd Shot Pickleball offers food, drinks, and professional-grade pickleball equipment.

The club is part of a broader business model, not a franchise, allowing Ratcliff to have flexibility in how the facility is run. Memberships start at $68 per month, with drop-in play available for non-members.

Expansion and Future Plans

3rd Shot Pickleball is part of a growing network with five locations, including sites in Colorado and Indiana. The Reno location is among the newest, and the company plans to expand further with more courts in response to high demand.

Max Ireland, general manager of 3rd Shot Pickleball in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, explained, “We built these clubs for pickleballers. As core pickleball players first, we selected certain things like court materials, lighting, and sound baffling to make sure the courts play great.”

News in Brief: 3rd Shot Pickleball Facility

3rd Shot Pickleball in Reno opened with great success, attracting over 600 guests. The facility, featuring nine courts, is already exploring expansion due to high demand.

With the rise of pickleball nationwide, 3rd Shot Pickleball is part of a growing trend and plans to open more locations in the future.
