Dayton Metro Pickleball: Exciting New Facility Coming to Vandalia with Indoor Courts!

The new owners of a former church on Miller Lane in Vandalia are transforming the property into Dayton Metro Pickleball, an indoor pickleball facility. The first phase of the project is set to include three and a half pickleball courts, a snack stand, and locker rooms, with construction expected to be completed by April 2025.

Indoor Facility Takes Shape

Kim DeLong, the property owner, shared the plans for the facility on Wednesday.

“The existing gym is currently under construction and will house 3 1/2 pickleball courts, a snack stand and locker rooms. We anticipate construction being completed in April 2025 for the first phase of the project.” – (Kim DeLong)

The site, located at 6132 Miller Lane, was purchased for $775,000 on January 17, 2025, from Empowerment Temple Inc. In addition to the initial phase, the facility has the potential for future expansion.

DeLong mentioned that a second phase of development could add 10 more indoor pickleball courts to the gym, with funding from investors to be secured.

“That portion of the project will be funded with investors as our facility grows. We are hoping to have investors secured and start construction in 2025.” – (Kim DeLong)

Future Plans and Growth

A third phase of development could see the addition of outdoor, lighted pickleball courts, offering players a chance to enjoy the game year-round.

The development plans were discussed with Vandalia city planners in August 2024, who were informed that the site already includes a gym, locker rooms with separate showers, and a commercial-style kitchen.

DeLong’s vision is to provide the community with a top-tier indoor pickleball facility, catering to players of all skill levels.

Pickleball’s Growing Popularity

Pickleball, often referred to as “America’s fastest growing sport,” has seen a rise in popularity across the country. CNBC reported last year that the number of outdoor public park pickleball courts in major cities has increased by 650% over the past seven years.

The Dayton area has also seen a rise in pickleball investments, with local groups planning large-scale pickleball sports facilities in nearby communities.

DeLong’s plans come at a time when demand for pickleball facilities is on the rise, with additional projects in the area, such as a public park with pickleball courts near the Oregon District and a proposed facility in Riverside, ready to further solidify the sport’s presence in Ohio.
