Chestnuthill Township Park Gets a Major Upgrade: New Pickleball Courts Due to DCNR Grant

Chestnuthill Township Park Gets a Major Upgrade: The rising popularity of pickleball has led Chestnuthill Township to secure a Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) grant for the construction of two new pickleball courts. The township has received $134,090 to fund the project, which will be located at Chestnuthill Township Park.

New Courts and Park Upgrades

According to Township Manager David Albright, the two new pickleball courts will be built next to the existing sand volleyball courts at the park.

In addition to the courts, the grant will also be used to make necessary upgrades to the park’s restroom facilities. This initiative is part of the township’s effort to improve public recreation options and meet the growing demand for pickleball in the community.

Rising Local Interest in Pickleball

Albright noted that the decision to add pickleball courts was driven by the increasing local interest in the sport. “There was growing interest in people playing pickleball,” said Albright. “I think it’s become more popular.” This new facility will give residents and visitors a dedicated space to enjoy the sport.

Keeping Up with Neighboring Townships

Pocono Township, a neighboring community, set a precedent when it opened three pickleball courts at Mountain View Park in September. Albright said that the township is looking to keep up with local trends by providing similar recreational amenities for its residents.

“We’re just trying to keep up as far as what other townships have already done in providing pickleball courts for their residents and visitors,” he explained.

Aiming for Fall Completion

The township is aiming to have pickleball courts ready for use by this fall. This timeline will allow the community to enjoy the new courts during the peak of the outdoor sports season.
