The Sun Bowl Association announced the inaugural Nusenda Credit Union Sun Bowl Pickleball Tournament, taking place on March 22-23, 2025, at Eastwood High School in El Paso. This tournament aims to celebrate pickleball, one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S., and attract players from across the region.
Executive Director Bernie Olivas expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating,

The tournament will kick off the Sun Bowl Association’s year-round calendar of community events, culminating in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl game.
It will feature various divisions, including Men’s and Women’s doubles, Mixed doubles, and a Hybrid Wheelchair Division, providing opportunities for players of all skill levels.
Tournament Format and Details
The Nusenda Credit Union Sun Bowl Pickleball Tournament will utilize a round-robin play format. Men’s and Women’s doubles matches will occur on March 22, followed by Mixed and Hybrid Wheelchair Divisions on March 23.
All matches will use Franklin yellow X-40 pickleballs and are set to be played to 15 points, with a requirement of winning by two points.
Participants are guaranteed three scheduled matches. In divisions with 3-5 teams, round-robin play will determine the winner.
For divisions with six or more teams, there will be Round Robin Pool Play leading to champion and consolation brackets. The Hybrid Wheelchair Division allows any combination of players, with abled participants rated 3.5 or below.
Divisions Offered
The tournament will feature various skill levels and age groups for men’s and women’s doubles, as well as mixed doubles. The divisions include:
- Men’s and Women’s Doubles Skill levels (3.0-, 3.5, 4.0+, Pro) across different age categories.
- Mixed Doubles Skill levels (3.0-, 3.5, 4.0+, Pro) across age groups.
- Hybrid Wheelchair OPEN Division, with an abled player rated 3.5 or below.

The tournament director reserves the right to adjust divisions or formats based on enrollment and capacity.
