Pickleball Courts Coming to Smith Drive Park: A Cumberland County project is set to receive funding to build a multi-purpose park featuring pickleball courts. On January 28, the Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded $125,000 for the development of Smith Drive Park in Hampden Township.
Park Features and Construction Plans
The first phase of construction will include site work, fencing, a playground, pavilions, and fitness stations. Pickleball and basketball courts are also part of the initial development.
The park’s master plan, approved in December 2022, includes additional features like dog parks, accessible bench seating, and a paved loop trail.
Community Support and Benefits
State Rep. Sheryl Delozier expressed her enthusiasm, stating,
“I was glad to advocate for these grant dollars and am looking forward to seeing all the amenities planned for the park come to fruition. This now-empty lot will be a great space for children and families in the future.” – (Delozier)
This funding is a significant step in transforming the empty lot into a vibrant space for community recreation, particularly for families and children. As construction progresses, the park aims to enhance local outdoor activities and provide essential facilities for residents.
