FishHawk Pickleball Tournament: The fourth annual Pickleball Tournament in FishHawk will be held on February 22, with the event aiming to raise funds for a new community space at Newsome High School. The tournament will take place at Hawk Park from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature two tournament sessions: an advanced competition with a cash prize and an intermediate tournament.
The money raised from the event will be used to create a meeting and planning space for athletes, teachers, and students at Newsome High School. The space will be equipped with furniture and painted thanks to donations, including contributions from interior decorator Veronica Perkins. The tournament costs $50 per player, with registration open until February 10. Participants who sign up early will receive a tournament T-shirt.
Details of the Tournament
The tournament will be divided into two sessions. The advanced tournament will run from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., featuring games to 11 with traditional scoring. This session will be limited to 16 teams and will offer a cash prize for the winners. While this tournament is not a DUPR event, players with a DUPR rating of 3.6 or higher are encouraged to register.
The intermediate tournament will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will also follow the same rules: games to 11 with traditional scoring. Players are encouraged to have knowledge of pickleball to ensure competitive gameplay.
Support for the Newsome Community Space
The funds raised will be used for a community space at Newsome High School that can serve multiple purposes. This area will be available for athletes to host dinners, meetings, and for teachers to plan lessons and curriculum.
The space will also support clubs, providing a location for students to organize and plan school activities. Tracy Regalia, president of the Newsome High School Athletic Boosters, emphasized the importance of these funds.
