Pickleball Courts Coming to Hilliard: The Hilliard City Council has unanimously approved $232,000 for the construction of four new outdoor pickleball courts at Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park. The new courts, which will include lighting, are expected to triple the city’s public pickleball court capacity by this summer.
Construction Timeline and Plans
Construction on the courts will begin in March 2025, with the project set for completion by the Fourth of July. The courts will replace the park’s existing beach volleyball court.
However, David Ball, a city spokesperson, mentioned that the city plans to redesign the park’s pool area in the future, and adding back beach volleyball could be part of the redesign.
A Growing Demand for Pickleball
The new courts come in response to increasing demand for pickleball facilities in Hilliard. Surveys conducted in recent years revealed that pickleball courts were the most requested park amenity by residents. The new courts will be built next to the existing two playing spaces, which were first opened in 2020.
Future Plans and New Recreation Center
In addition to the outdoor courts, Hilliard is also planning to dedicate some interior gym space at its new recreation center, set to open later this summer, to pickleball. David Ball confirmed that memberships for the new facility will begin selling in about a month.
