Civic Center Pickleball Courts: Denver may soon see six pickleball courts installed at Civic Center, located at the corner of Lincoln Street and Colfax Avenue. The project is currently in its concept phase, with plans aiming for completion by fall 2025, depending on approval and construction.
The city began exploring ways to activate the vacant lot during the COVID-19 pandemic. In January 2024, the city hosted a public visioning session, where ideas ranged from basketball courts to a state park. Pickleball emerged as the most popular option, generating excitement among community members.
Design Plans
Stantec Architecture, Inc. has drafted a concept for the site, which includes six pickleball courts, seating, a kiosk for attendants, and storage. The project would also include landscaping improvements such as trees.
Challenges and Transportation
The site is on a slope, requiring grading, and also collects stormwater runoff. There are discussions about who will maintain the courts, whether it will be Denver Parks and Recreation or a pickleball vendor.
Despite concerns about parking and bus service, Dreyer highlighted the site’s proximity to Civic Center Station, making it easily accessible by public transportation. Though no parking will be provided on-site, there are nearby public parking lots and ample on-street parking.

Plans for six pickleball courts at Civic Center in Denver are progressing. The courts will provide a community space for locals and visitors, with a projected completion in fall 2025. Despite challenges in grading and stormwater management, the project benefits from excellent public transit access.
