Oro-Medonte Welcomes Youth Pickleball: Elevation Athletics will offer youth pickleball lessons for the first time in Oro-Medonte starting February 20. Designed for children aged 10 to 17, the lessons will run Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at East Oro Public School, continuing until March 20.
Growing Demand for Youth Programs
Stephanie Merrick, lead administrator for Elevation Athletics, noted an increase in requests for youth pickleball programs.

The pilot project aims to gauge interest, with plans to expand if successful. Merrick emphasized the sport’s inclusivity.

She also highlighted its low-impact nature, making it suitable for longer play.
Previous Successes and Future Goals
Elevation Athletics has successfully run youth programs in Bradford and York Region. Merrick hopes to extend these offerings to Orillia, Midland, and Barrie, responding to high demand.
The organization operates by renting gym space from schools or partnering with municipalities. Although they have sought to establish programs in the City of Orillia.

Program Details
The eight-hour program at East Oro Public School costs $130.30, with two courts set up for instruction. An instructor from Barrie will lead the sessions, providing a few paddles while students are encouraged to bring their own. A minimum of eight players is needed to run the program, with room for up to 12.
Elevation Athletics also organizes pickleball tournaments and multi-sport summer camps, along with programs in other sports like badminton, basketball, golf, and soccer.
