New El Paso Pickleball Club: A new pickleball club in El Paso is giving players of all levels a place to connect and play without membership fees. Dropshot Social, founded in the summer of 2024 by Monserrat Pena and Omar Ramirez, offers a welcoming environment for beginners and experienced players to enjoy the sport together.
Pickleball, invented in 1965, has gained immense popularity across the U.S. Dropshot Social was created to provide a free and inclusive space for El Paso’s growing pickleball community. Unlike other clubs that charge fees, Dropshot Social allows anyone to participate without financial barriers.
An Inclusive Space for All Skill Levels
The club prides itself on welcoming players from all backgrounds. Whether someone is a beginner or a competitive player, Dropshot Social provides an opportunity to enjoy the sport.
“Drop shot is not exclusive to a certain niche. If you’re somebody who takes it more competitively or it’s just like something you do every once in a while, we’re just open to all levels and that’s something we really try to promote.” – (Monserrat Pena)
Regular Events and Future Tournaments
The club hosts social events every two weeks, allowing players to meet, practice, and compete in a friendly setting. While the current focus is on social play, the founders plan to introduce competitive tournaments in the future.
“We’re just trying to go for the social aspect and kind of make it a little big. And then in the future, we do want to host tournaments just kind of go also into the competitive aspects of it.” – (Omar Ramirez)
Diverse and Growing Membership
Members come from various backgrounds, with some transitioning from other sports. Long-time member Jose Sanchez Jr. joined to introduce his friends to the game.
“I used to play tennis, and I wanted a quick way to get my friends into it too. So, we started picking up pickleball and we started enjoying it.” – (Jose Sanchez Jr.)
Dropshot Social continues to grow, creating friendships and expanding El Paso’s pickleball scene.
“I’ve been showing up every meeting they have and participating, meeting new people, and just exchanging with each other talking, you can even make connections here.” – (Jose Sanchez Jr.)
