Murray Pickleball Complex Nears Completion, Ribbon-Cutting Set for April 2025

Murray Pickleball Complex: The Murray Pickleball Association is preparing for the grand opening of a new pickleball complex. The ribbon-cutting event is scheduled for the third week of April, marking the completion of Phase 1 of the project. The complex, located near Central Park in Murray, will feature four courts and a championship court.

Construction Progress and Goals

The complex has been in development for two and a half years. Organizers, including members of the Murray Pickleball Association, traveled across five states to study pickleball facilities and gather ideas for their own.

With the construction of Phase 1 nearing completion, the association is focused on completing the final details, such as adding benches and picnic tables. The land for the complex was donated by the City of Murray.

Fundraising Tournament and Community Support

To raise the final funds needed to complete Phase 1, the Murray Pickleball Association is hosting a fundraising tournament.

The event will take place at Murray State University’s CFSB Center, a venue known for hosting basketball games. Tim Thurmond, the association’s volunteer president, is hopeful that the tournament and the ribbon-cutting will come together in the third week of April.

“We have a lot of variables… with our construction, but we’ve built in enough time, we think, for us to hopefully be breaking or cutting ribbons here into maybe the third week in April.” – (Thurmond)

Future Plans for the Complex

Once Phase 1 is complete, the Murray Pickleball Association will shift focus to raising funds for Phase 2, which will add five more courts to the facility. Thurmond expressed a vision of creating a space that benefits the whole community, not just local players.

“We’re going to have a level of fellowship. This game brings that, and we’re trying to compliment and respect the game of pickleball by bringing the best facility that will enhance the fellowship and the recreation.” – (Thurmond)

Looking Ahead

With Phase 1 set to be finished soon, the Murray Pickleball Complex is assured to become a vibrant hub for local and regional pickleball players. The planned tournament and ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark an exciting milestone for the project and the community.
