Officer Killed in the Line of Duty

The officer, identified as 24-year-old Jeremy Labonte, was dispatched to the Roswell Pickleball Club to investigate a report of a suspicious person in the parking lot.

When he approached Espinoza for questioning, the suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots. Labonte was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Suspect in Custody and Facing Charges

Following the shooting, Espinoza was taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses, including murder, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and possessing a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) stated that its findings will be shared with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for potential prosecution.

The Roswell Police Department issued a statement acknowledging the loss of Officer Labonte and emphasizing the importance of supporting his family and colleagues. “priority now is to surround and support the family of our fallen officer and grieving department.” the department said in a press release.
