North Liberty’s Youth Council Hosts Pickleball Tournament: High school students in North Liberty will have a chance to compete in a doubles pickleball tournament while supporting a local cause. The event, organized by the North Liberty Youth Council (NLYC) and North Liberty Community Center staff, will take place on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Penn Meadows Park.
A Fun and Charitable Competition
The tournament is open to students from all area high schools. To enter, teams must donate five cans of non-perishable food items or pay a $5 entry fee. All proceeds will go to the North Liberty Community Pantry.
Team check-in starts at 4:30 p.m., and matches begin at 5 p.m. Water and granola bars will be provided to all participants. The winning team members will each receive a $10 gift card to a local restaurant.
Youth Council’s Role in the Community
The NLYC, founded in 2022, consists of nine students from Liberty, CCA, and Regina high schools. The group focuses on advocating for young people, organizing service projects, and hosting events that benefit the community.
Encouraging Participation and Giving Back
By combining sports with charity, the tournament encourages students to engage with their community. Participants not only enjoy a friendly competition but also help provide food for those in need.
The success of this event may lead to more opportunities for young people to get involved in similar initiatives, further strengthening North Liberty’s sense of community.
