Bloomsburg to Add Pickleball Courts at Streater Field by August 2025

Bloomsburg to Add Pickleball Courts: The town council of Bloomsburg has approved plans to build 10 new pickleball courts at Streater Field in Columbia County. The $350,000 project is expected to be completed by August 2025. The effort was made possible by community members who raised over $100,000 to support the growing sport.

Community Effort Makes Expansion Possible

The push for new courts was led by Diane Sones and Karen Tintsman of Danville, who recognized the need for more outdoor pickleball spaces. Both passionate players, they spent the past year raising funds through donations from family, friends, and local businesses.

“We’ve got a lot of nice friends and family that donated and we have some corporate and small business out of Danville that donated.” – (Sones)

Danville lacked a suitable location for outdoor courts, so Bloomsburg became the next best option. The town had already set aside $120,000 for pickleball development, making it an ideal choice.

A Growing Sport Brings People Together

For players like Tintsman, pickleball is more than just a game—it is a way to connect with others.

“It’s a chance for us to socialize, this is a chance to meet people, this is where somebody from out of town can learn the sport and meet people from the area.” – (Tintsman)

Their efforts impressed Bloomsburg officials, including Drew Barton, a civil engineering consultant for the town.

“I have never seen a project like that. It’s pretty shocking, you know, when they said they wanted to contribute some fundraising they had completed, I don’t think anyone understood it was to the level they talked about.” – (Drew Barton)

More Courts Planned for the Future

The 10 new courts at Streater Field are just the beginning. Plans are already in place to build 10 more courts in the future, ensuring that the growing demand for pickleball facilities is met.

With the town’s investment and strong community support, Bloomsburg is set to become a hub for pickleball players in the region.
