The village of Plover will soon host a new pickleball facility. Sentry Insurance Foundation donated $500,000 to the Heart of Wisconsin Pickleball Association (HOWPA) for the Sentry Pickleball Complex, set to open this summer at Lake Pacawa Park.
State-of-the-art facilities for All Abilities
The complex will feature 12 fully wheelchair-accessible, lighted courts designed for players of all ages and abilities. The playing area will span 35,568 square feet, ensuring ample space between court lines and fences.
Additional amenities will include weather concerns such as wind direction flags on fences, windscreens for spectators, a shade structure, gathering pavilion, and seating options. Jay Johnson, a board member and co-chair of HOWPA’s fundraising committee, emphasized the vision behind the complex.
Community Collaboration and Support
The project was announced on February 6, with contributions from HOWPA and local businesses such as Mullins Whey, Dudas Motors, Stevens Point Orthopedics, and the Plover Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
SentryWorld and HOWPA have previously collaborated on events, including the upcoming Frozen Pickle on February 22-23 and a state wheelchair pickleball exhibition and tournament this spring.
Sentry’s chairman and CEO, Pete McPartland, praised the project. He noted that it aligns with Sentry’s focus on improving quality of life in the community. Steve Kunst, the administrator for Plover, expressed excitement about the new facility.
A Bright Future for Pickleball in Plover
The Sentry Pickleball Complex is expected to strengthen community ties and promote pickleball among all ages. As it develops, the facility will serve as a hub for players and families, creating opportunities for connection through sport.
