Capitol Hill’s Pickleball Makeover: The Pickleball Federation of the Northern Mariana Islands (PFNMI) is ready to share some exciting news: Capitol Hill is set to receive its very own dedicated pickleball courts.
A Major Milestone
In an enthusiastic email to members, PFNMI president Nelson Krum shared that plans are underway to transform an old tennis court into four state-of-the-art pickleball courts, a dream long in the making.
“This is the most exciting announcement I have shared with you since we striped the courts at the American Memorial Park. We have been working toward dedicated pickleball courts for quite a while, and our efforts are beginning to bear fruit. The Saipan Mayor’s Office and Division of Parks and Recreation are letting us resurface the old tennis court into four dedicated pickleball courts. We are seeking bids for resurfacing the court, new fencing, and new lighting. These courts will be the place to play on Saipan!”-(Nelson Krum )
Community Support
The commitment doesn’t stop there. Triple J Saipan has taken charge to support the resurfacing project financially, and Krum is actively seeking additional sponsors to help with the lighting and fencing. The Northern Mariana Sports Association has also pledged funds for the lights, demonstrating strong community backing for the initiative.
“Please thank Sean Ficke (Triple J Motors general manager) for his work with Triple J, the Saipan Mayor’s Office, and Parks and Recreation! Teamwork makes the dream work.” -(Krum)
Call for Community Involvement
Mark your calendars: a formal announcement ceremony is scheduled for July 19 at 2 PM. Saipan Mayor Ramon B. “RB” Camacho will be in attendance to celebrate this important moment for the local pickleball community. The ceremony will take place at the court behind the baseball field on Capitol Hill, promising a vibrant gathering of supporters.
Krum expressed a strong desire for community involvement, encouraging members to show up in droves. “We want a strong turnout to show support, and we will have some of the membership playing on the existing courts,” he noted, highlighting the importance of unity in this exciting development.
As Saipan gears up for its dedicated pickleball courts, the anticipation is obvious. With the community coming together, the future looks bright for pickleball on the island, paving the way for both recreational play and competitive events. This is just the beginning of a new era for pickleball in the Northern Mariana Islands, and everyone is eager to see the fruits of their hard work come to life.
