Pickleball Courts at Long Branch Park: The Killeen City Council will present a grant on Tuesday that will fund the conversion of a tennis court at Long Branch Park into four pickleball courts. The $25,000 project is covered by a 50% matching grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Local Park Grant Program.
Funding and Project Details
The grant will pay for resurfacing the court with pickleball-specific surfaces, installing plated nets and net posts, and making sidewalk and curb ramp repairs. Killeen ranked eighth out of 58 non-urban applicants, with only 22 projects receiving funding.
The City Council first approved the grant application in July, and funding was confirmed in January. A previous presentation also mentioned $192,000 in improvements at Fowler Park, though this was not included in the latest agenda.
Meeting Information
The Killeen City Council meeting will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 101 N. College St. Meetings occur on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Those unable to attend can watch live on Spectrum Cable Channel 10 or stream it on the city’s website, KilleenTexas.gov.
