Pickleball Plans on Hold in Tucker: A heated contention is unfolding in Tucker over a proposed 12-court pickleball complex. Neighbors living near the site on Morgan Road are considering legal action if the city moves forward with construction. The City of Tucker has paused the project while conducting necessary studies.
Community Raises Concerns Over Location
Residents opposing the project argue that the courts are too close to homes and should be built in an industrial area.
“It’s closer than typical recommendations for pickleball complexes to be near residents. We really think it should be in an industrial area.” – (Heather Hale)
Many neighbors have spoken at city council meetings, citing concerns about noise, increased traffic, and property values.
“There are talks about homes located close to courts can see a 20% decrease in their property values.” – (Rebecca Gross)
“We are committed and very eager to have conversation with the city about this. The last thing we want to do is go forward with a lawsuit and we will if we need to, we want to protect the neighbors.” – (Heather Hale)
Supporters See an Opportunity
Not all residents oppose the project. Some, like Bill Cruz, believe the site is a great choice and will bring positive change.
“I’m a proponent for these courts being here. This has been an underutilized space my whole life since we’ve ever been here.” – (Bill Cruz)
He also noted that an outside company identified the location as a top option for the complex.
“When it’s all said and done with, I think the biggest problem people are going to have is we should have built more courts, and we should have built them sooner.” – (Bill Cruz)
City Conducting Studies Before Decision
The City of Tucker has not yet made a final decision on the project. A city spokesperson confirmed the project is on hold while officials complete a required sound and location study. Opponents, including Hale, hope the city will reconsider the location rather than move forward with legal action.
“We support a pickleball complex, we just don’t want it by residences.” – (Heather Hale)
The city declined an on-camera interview.
