Pickleball Fun Awaits at Estes Park: Colorado are in for a treat as the Estes Park Recreation Center prepares to host a series of pickleball events catering to all skill levels in the coming weeks. From beginner clinics to competitive tournaments, the rec center aims to foster a growing pickleball community in the area.

Beginner and Interest Clinics – February 23

The event lineup begins on February 23 with a Beginner Adult Pickleball Clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. This session welcomes adults of all ages who are eager to learn the fundamentals of pickleball, including rules, strategies, and proper techniques. Participants will receive instruction from experienced coaches to help them build a solid foundation in the sport.

Following that, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the rec center will hold a Pickleball Interest Clinic, designed for those who are curious about the sport or want to hone their skills before entering tournament play.

Competitive Tournaments in March

For experienced players, the action heats up in March with two exciting tournaments.

  • March 3: The Advanced Doubles Pickleball Tournament runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This tournament is open to players aged 16 and older who are ready to showcase their competitive skills.
  • March 8: The 18 and Over Pickleball Tournament takes place at the same time, welcoming players aged 18 and above to compete in high-level matches.

A Thriving Pickleball Community

The Estes Park Recreation Center has already become a gathering place for pickleball enthusiasts, many of whom meet for morning pick-up games. Regular player Dennis Miller shared his enthusiasm for the sport, stating:

“I’ve been playing for about three years. I even played on a cruise ship. It was a big ship, so there wasn’t too much rocking back and forth.” – (Dennis Miller)

Miller also described some of pickleball’s unique rules, adding,

“When you serve, you can’t serve it in the ‘kitchen,'” referring to the non-volley zone near the net, where serves landing there result in a fault.

Combining elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, pickleball has seen rapid growth across the United States.

Recent statistics indicate that nearly 5 million people now play the sport, making it one of the fastest-growing activities nationwide. Its easy-to-learn format, social nature, and accessibility have attracted players of all ages and abilities to courts around the country.
