The City Council is set to discuss adding 12 pickleball courts at Dave White Regional Park during a meeting on Tuesday, following the Presidents Day holiday. Councilmembers will review a proposed contract for engineering design services costing $63,070 with General Acrylics Inc.
Background on Pickleball Expansion
City staff identified space at Dave White that could accommodate the new courts. The proposed site is located north of the existing racquetball courts and south of the basketball court, next to a ramada. The plan includes relocating two sand volleyball pits to the southern part of the park, where other volleyball courts are located.
Other Council Agenda Items
In addition to the pickleball discussion, councilmembers will ratify a memorandum of understanding with the Casa Grande Elementary School District.
This agreement will provide access to gymnasiums for youth basketball and volleyball practices due to a surge in participation, which has increased by 54.9% since 2022, reaching 516 participants.
The school district will offer gym access at no additional cost, allowing practices from Monday to Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m., at several local elementary schools.
The Public Works Department will also seek approval to purchase a new landfill truck scale. The current scales have been in use for over 30 years and require excessive maintenance to meet state codes. The new scales will cost $115,000 and will be purchased from Southwestern Scale Co. Inc.
Upcoming Meetings
Before the regular council meeting, there will be a study session featuring Jerry Stabley. He will present on the Pinal Alliance for Economic Development’s agreement with the city regarding the AARP Reading Program.
The study session starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m. Both will take place at City Hall, located at 510 E. Florence Blvd.
