Spring Pickleball Clinics at Ella Harris Park: The Harrison Township Recreation Commission is offering pickleball clinics in April and May at Ella Harris Park. The sessions are designed for beginners, advanced beginners, and intermediate players. Registration is open, and spots are filling up fast.
Pickleball Clinics Scheduled for Spring
The beginner classes will be held on Thursdays—April 15, 22, 29, and May 6—with sessions from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. A rain date is set for May 13. Advanced beginners can participate on Mondays—April 14, 21, 28, and May 5—from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with May 12 as a rain date.
The intermediate session is already full, but interest remains high. “We’re trying to reach all age groups,” said Recreation Coordinator Sharon Chew. “Everybody is tired of the cold weather and they’re ready for spring.”
Seniors Get Their Own Sessions
In May, two four-day clinics will be available for seniors. The beginner clinic runs from May 19-22, from 9 to 10 a.m., while the advanced clinic takes place at 10 to 11 a.m. on the same days. Participants must register at signupgenius.com and bring their own paddles and water bottles.
Chew emphasized the growing appeal of pickleball, especially among older adults. “It is like tennis in a lot of ways,” she said. “It’s kind of taken over tennis in recent years. It is not as strenuous as tennis, which I think is where the popularity comes from. We get people in their 60s participating in games.”
New Courts Coming to William Wilt Park
As pickleball grows in Mullica Hill, the township has been working on adding courts at William Wilt Park. Though not ready in time for the spring clinics, the courts are expected to be completed in late spring or early summer.
