Chicken N Pickle Opens in St. Charles, Bringing Pickleball and Classic American Cuisine

Chicken N Pickle Opens in St. Charles: Chicken N Pickle, a well-known Kansas City-based pickleball and dining venue, has officially opened its doors at 1500 S. Main St. in St. Charles, Missouri. This new location offers a mix of competitive pickleball and a menu featuring classic American comfort food.

A unique eat-and-play experience

Founded in 2016 by Kansas City native Dave Johnson, Chicken N Pickle is designed to provide an interactive experience for guests of all ages.

The St. Charles venue spans 75,000 square feet and features six indoor pickleball courts, four outdoor courts—two of which are covered—along with three full-service bars, fire pits, a stage for live music, and large-screen TVs for sports viewing. The facility also includes private event spaces, a game yard with cornhole, ping pong, bocce, Battleship, and Jenga, as well as a seasonal outdoor ice rink.

With a seating capacity of around 2,000, visitors can choose to dine indoors or outdoors, with unique options like private igloos available for groups. Chloe Lane, the social media manager for Chicken N Pickle’s St. Charles location, highlighted the venue’s winter experience, saying,

“Skating under the twinkling lights while also catching a Blues game on the outdoor TVs? There’s nothing better!” – (Chloe Lane)

St. Charles gets its own local touch

Chicken N Pickle operates in 11 locations across the country, but each location is designed to reflect its community. The St. Charles site was designed by Populous, the same architectural firm behind the Glendale location. Additionally, a St. Charles flag is painted on one of the outdoor courts.

“We want each Chicken N Pickle to feel local to the cities we build in and less like another ‘chain restaurant.’ The strong sense of community and pride in St. Charles made it the perfect place to create a fun spot that feels like home for locals while welcoming visitors to experience what makes this city so special.” – (Chloe Lane)

A menu that blends health and comfort

The food at Chicken N Pickle is as much of a draw as the pickleball courts. The menu features ethically sourced ingredients, offering healthy choices and comfort foods.

One of the main highlights is the 24-hour citrus-brined rotisserie chicken, cooked over a live oak wood-fire grill, often served with a signature pink smoke ring. It can be enjoyed as chicken Tinga or in customizable quarter- or half-size portions, with four seasoning options and a variety of sauces.

Other popular menu items include the Pickled Chicken sandwich, house-smoked wings, fried pickles, and the NKC Hot Chicken sandwich, which Lane personally recommends.

For those looking for alternatives to chicken, the menu also features the Flat Burger, a pulled pork sandwich, and the quinoa-based Power Bowl, which includes avocado, pepitas, and citrus vinaigrette. Shareable plates like chorizo queso, deviled eggs, and tostadas offer great options for groups enjoying a meal between matches.

Chicken N Pickle also keeps its menu fresh with seasonal updates. Lane shared that they recently added new wraps, including veggie, Caesar, and Buffalo options, along with red pepper hummus.

“We added a few new wrap options – veggie, Caesar and Buffalo — in addition to red pepper hummus. We will be rolling out some new options in the spring, so we are looking forward to that.” – (Chloe Lane)

A place for community and connection

Beyond just a sports and dining venue, Chicken N Pickle aims to create a welcoming space for social interaction. Founder Dave Johnson emphasized the role of pickleball in fostering community connections.

“Whether it’s through meeting new people on the pickleball courts, sharing a drink at the bar, or coming together for a community event, our goal is to create an atmosphere where people feel comfortable to spend their free time. Our mission is to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive community where families, friends and colleagues can create memories.” – (Chloe Lane)

What’s next?

With its grand opening in St. Charles, Chicken N Pickle continues to expand its presence across the U.S. The venue is expected to attract avid pickleball players and those looking for a fun social space. As the menu evolves and new events are introduced, Chicken N Pickle is set to become a staple for sports and dining enthusiasts in the region.
