Pickleball Expansion at Parker-Haun: The University of Alabama System board of trustees approved multiple construction projects for the Tuscaloosa campus on Feb. 7, including a $1.6 million pickleball expansion. Due to rising demand, up to 10 new courts will be added at Parker-Haun Tennis Facility to improve recreational access for students.
Meeting Campus Demand for Pickleball
Pickleball has grown in popularity, leading to long wait times on existing courts. To address this, the board approved new courts at 550 Peter Bryce Boulevard. The expansion is funded through ETF Advancement and Technology appropriation.
“These courts appeal to a broad demographic, even some of our students who may not be as familiar with fitness and recreation.” said VP of student life Steven Hood.
“It’s a great opportunity to connect and engage students promoting physical activity. These additional courts will keep pace with innovative recreational trends, contributing to a vibrant and healthy campus for our students.” – (Steven Hood)
Other Campus Developments
Along with the pickleball expansion, the board approved new student services and training facilities to enhance campus infrastructure. Several projects were also approved for the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
