Florence County’s New Pickleball Courts: Florence County Parks and Recreation is nearing completion of a long-planned event center in Lake City Park. The facility, which has been in development for eight years, is expected to be finished by May. Meanwhile, new pickleball and tennis courts will officially open this Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Event Center Nears Completion
Nathan Dawson, director of Florence County Parks and Recreation, said the event center has been a major project for the county.
“It’s been a lot of planning, and hopefully we can continue as we progress with this building— once we finish up with that we’re hoping to move to another phase and continue our work in Lake City.” – (Nathan Dawson)
The center will serve as a venue for birthday parties, family gatherings, and meetings. It will also feature an outdoor patio, a fully equipped catering kitchen, and a private room. Dawson noted that Lake City Park’s popularity made it an ideal location for expansion.
“The park is one of our more heavily used parks, a lot of traffic and really we saw an opportunity to expand on that success with this addition.” – (Nathan Dawson)
Courts Set to Open Friday
While the event center is still under construction, the park’s new tennis and pickleball courts are ready for use. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place Friday at 4:30 p.m. at the courts on Charles Street.
“It’s going to be a wonderful addition, I’m sure a lot of people are going to enjoy and bring in a lot of people from outside of Florence county as well.” – (Nathan Dawson)
