The inaugural FUNDERBALL charity pickleball event took place on Feb. 22 at Tennis Clubs of Canada’s “Bubble” in Niagara Falls, raising over $2,500 for Niagara-born marathon runner Michael Seliske. The funds will support his donation to the UK-based Shaftesbury Group, a charity dedicated to assisting individuals with disabilities, as part of his effort to compete in the London Marathon this April.
A Unique and Engaging Fundraiser
FUNDERBALL combined competitive spirit with entertaining activities, allowing participants to earn points through various pickleball-related challenges. The event featured creative games, including dinking-only matches, reverse-score games, rotating partners, serve-to-the-hoop contests, pickleball trivia, and other engaging competitions.
Winners of the event included Ray Haymes in first place and Leanna Lococco in second place, both representing NOTL Pickleball Club. Third place went to Rachel Friedmann from Owen Sound, who discovered the event through an online search and traveled three hours to participate.
Community Spirit and Positive Impact
Attendees ranged from beginners to advanced players, creating an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. Karen Seliske, one of the event organizers, expressed satisfaction with the outcome.
