Olympic Pickleball Tournament: Port Angeles Teams Dominate the Podium

Teams from Forks, Sequim, and Port Angeles competed fiercely in the Olympic Pickleball Tournament last weekend at Roosevelt Elementary School in Port Angeles. Local players showcased their skills in men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles events, earning top honors in multiple categories.

Port Angeles Dominates Men’s and Women’s Doubles

In the men’s doubles event, the Port Angeles team of Mark Pasola and Steve Bennett secured the gold medal, with Sequim’s Tim Williams and Steve Reeves taking silver. The bronze went to Ernest Sazon and Jhony Williams of the U.S. Coast Guard.

Port Angeles also found success in the women’s doubles category, as Jennie Heilman and Sherry Gyovia claimed gold. Sequim’s Tiffaney Issaacson and Dawyne Scarano finished second with silver, while Forks’ Annie Crippen and Emily Foster took bronze.

Mixed Doubles Brackets See Intense Competition

The mixed doubles category was divided into two brackets, with fierce competition for the top spots. In bracket A, the Port Angeles duo of Bennett and Gyovia won gold, while Tim Williams and Nicole Lepping of Sequim secured silver. Reeves and Laura Kriese, also from Sequim, earned bronze.

Bracket B saw another strong Port Angeles performance, as Bill Truckenmiller and Sharen Warrant took home gold. The silver medal went to Tony Foster and Annie Foster of Forks, while Port Angeles’ Pasola and Nancy Bryant secured the bronze.

Growing Popularity of Pickleball in the Region

The Olympic Pickleball Tournament highlighted the sport’s surging popularity in the area. With participants from multiple towns and competitive matchups, the event demonstrated the enthusiasm for pickleball in the region.
