Fur Rondy Festival Pickleball Tournament Heats Up Winter Fun in Anchorage

Fur Rondy Festival Pickleball Tournament: Two major winter events are underway in Alaska as the 90th Fur Rondy Festival kicks off in Anchorage. Despite the cancellation of the Open World Championship sled dog race due to low snow levels, the festival still features exciting activities, including the Rondy Invitational, a pickleball tournament, and a grand parade.

Fast-Paced Action in the Rondy Invitational

The Fur Rondy Festival, a long-standing tradition in Anchorage, began with the thrilling Rondy Invitational sled dog race on Friday. Sixteen mushers and their teams raced down 4th Avenue, showcasing the speed and endurance of the world’s top sled dogs. Seven rookies joined this year’s competition, adding fresh energy to the event.

Pickleball Gains Popularity in Alaska

The festival also includes the “Rondyball Pickleball Tournament,” hosted by the Anchorage Pickleball Club at the Arctic Recreation Center. The Your Alaska Link team visited the tournament and found many first-time players enjoying the sport, which is rapidly gaining popularity nationwide.

More Winter Fun and Festivities

Beyond the races and tournaments, Fur Rondy offers a range of activities, including a curling tournament, a carnival, and a snow sculpture contest.

The festival’s highlight, the Grand Parade, will step off at 10:30 a.m. near the Egan Center. Trill Gates and Eddie P. will emcee the event, adding to the excitement.
