The resurfacing project will take place at multiple parks throughout the parish, providing new spaces for the sport’s growing community.

The project includes upgrades at four locations:

  • Earl G. Williamson Park (6 dedicated courts) – 11425 LA Hwy. 1, Oil City, La.

The initiative aims to enhance recreational opportunities for residents by repurposing existing tennis courts.

Growing Demand for Pickleball Courts

Patrick Wesley, director of Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation, emphasized the increasing popularity of the sport.

“Over the past three years, pickleball has emerged as the fastest growing sport in the country,”. “There is a strong demand from our Caddo Parish citizens, young and old, to develop more dedicated pickleball courts, and we are listening.”(Patrick Wesley)

Pickleball, a paddle sport combining elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, has seen rapid growth nationwide. The sport’s accessibility and appeal to all age groups have fueled its expansion.

Future Impact and Next Steps

The new courts will provide additional playing opportunities for local players, fostering a more active and engaged community. With pickleball’s popularity continuing to rise, Caddo Parish’s investment in court resurfacing reflects a commitment to meeting recreational needs.

Officials have not announced a completion date for the project but will provide updates as work progresses.
