A Step Closer to Pickleball at Petal High
The $1.8 million project, funded through a bond referendum passed in May 2023, initially focused on building new tennis courts, which were completed in January 2025. Now, the district is moving forward with plans for pickleball courts at the same location.
Excitement Builds for Pickleball’s Arrival
With pickleball’s rapid growth nationwide, the addition of dedicated courts at Petal High School is expected to increase student participation and provide more opportunities for competitive and recreational play.
The school’s new tennis complex has already received positive feedback. Student-athlete McKenna Hawkins expressed enthusiasm about the upgrades.
“The other courts were kind of old and had cracks in them, but now we’ve got this beautiful facility. I think it just goes to show how much tennis means to us and what it means to me and my friends just to be able to have this facility and have this provided for us in our school.” – (McKenna Hawkins)
With pickleball growing in popularity, the upcoming courts are expected to further enhance the school’s athletic offerings.
