Sylacauga’s New Pickleball Hub: Pickleball is getting a new home in Sylacauga as the city moves forward with plans to build six to eight pickleball courts at the former city pool site. The courts will be part of a larger recreational upgrade, with construction bids expected to go out in March or April and completion anticipated by late 2025.
Transforming the Old Pool into a Pickleball Destination
The city is handling the demolition of the old pool itself, a move that will save time and money. Once the site is cleared, it will be transformed into a dedicated pickleball facility, complete with:
- Six to eight pickleball courts (final count based on bids).
- Outdoor lighting for evening play.
- ADA-compliant public restrooms.
- A renovated parking lot and landscaped green space.
- Seating areas for spectators.
A gateway pavilion with picnic tables will serve as the entrance, offering a community gathering space alongside the courts. The design is expected to feature blue and gray colors, along with a unique slogan and an official name to be determined.
Pickleball Courts Set for Fall 2025 Completion
The project is expected to go out for bid in March or April, with a formal groundbreaking planned for May. Once construction begins, the facility is projected to be completed within five to six months, making it a reality for players before the end of the year.
Larger Recreation Center Also in Development
In addition to the pickleball courts, the city is investing in a $28-$30 million indoor recreation center, which will include a 10-lane, 25-yard indoor pool, a fitness center, and walking track. The project is still in its early planning stages, with a groundbreaking expected later in 2025.
