The Pickle Club Expands to Syosset: The Oyster Bay Town Board is reviewing a proposal to transform a 27,000-square-foot warehouse on Michael Drive into a seven-court indoor pickleball center. The plan, submitted by The Pickle Club owner Michael Glover, would mark the club’s second location following its Jericho facility.
A State-of-the-Art Pickleball Venue
The proposed Syosset facility aims to solve common challenges found in existing pickleball centers, including:
- High ceilings for better gameplay.
- Ample space behind courts to allow full-range movement.
- Noise mitigation measures to address sound concerns.
Unlike many existing pickleball clubs, The Pickle Club will not require memberships, allowing players to reserve courts through an app for flexible, pay-as-you-play access.
Addressing Zoning and Community Considerations
Since the facility is located in an area zoned for light industrial use, the proposal requires:
- Town board approval of the site plan.
- A special use permit.
- A potential parking variance.
The facility’s cul-de-sac location minimizes residential noise concerns, an issue that has challenged other Long Island pickleball centers. However, parking remains a key topic, as the warehouse is attached to Bounce, a trampoline and entertainment park.
Councilwoman Laura Maier raised concerns about possible traffic congestion, but attorney Michael Sahn, representing The Pickle Club, reassured the board that the two businesses have different peak hours, reducing the likelihood of parking conflicts.
Public Feedback and Next Steps
To gather community input, the town board has opened a 21-day public comment period before making a final decision. The board will evaluate zoning adjustments, parking solutions, and community concerns before granting approval.
If approved, the facility would add another high-quality indoor pickleball venue to Long Island’s rapidly surging pickleball scene.
