Pickleball Courts Planned for Danville: Plans to build pickleball courts at Sunnybrook Park in Danville have been relocated to Bloomsburg, where construction is set to begin this spring. The decision came after an opportunity arose for the project to move forward more quickly in Streater Field, Bloomsburg.
A Faster Path to Pickleball Courts
Local pickleball players, led by Diane Sones, had been working for over two years to establish free public courts in the Valley. However, in early January, the group learned that Bloomsburg had already secured a grant and was close to finalizing construction plans.

By combining Bloomsburg’s grant funds with the group’s secured funds and ongoing fundraising efforts, the revised plan now includes ten pickleball courts at Streater Field.
Montour County Reallocates Funds
At a Montour Area Recreation Commission meeting, Montour County Commissioner Rebecca Dressler announced that the pickleball group had returned $25,000 in hotel tax grant funds originally set aside for the Danville project.

The move allows the pickleball community to establish courts sooner, benefiting players who have long awaited a dedicated space to enjoy the sport.
What’s Next for Pickleball in the Valley?
With construction set to begin this spring, Bloomsburg will soon have ten new pickleball courts, offering more opportunities for players of all skill levels.
The shift also highlights the growing demand for pickleball and the willingness of communities to support its expansion. As the sport continues to gain popularity, efforts to add more courts in the region may follow.
