Ace Pickleball to Open in Bloomfield Township: Ace Pickleball is set to open in Bloomfield Township this fall, following approval from the township trustees. The new facility will bring 11 indoor pickleball courts to the area, adding a popular sport to the township’s diverse sports offerings.
Location and Facility Details
Ace Pickleball will be located at 2285 Franklin Road in the Research Park District, a region already known for its sports facilities.
The new venue will occupy 32,250 square feet, with the eastern portion dedicated to the pickleball courts and a 1,800-square-foot mezzanine. The western side of the building will continue to house offices.
The facility’s location within the Research Park District means there are no regulated operating hours. This benefit is significant, as the building’s offices are closed on weekends, aligning with Ace Pickleball’s peak hours.
The proposed hours are Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Community and Trustee Support
Bloomfield Township trustees have expressed enthusiasm about the project. Trustees Neal Barnett, Valerie Murray, and Mark Antakli praised the plan, noting its positive impact on the local community.
“I think it’s a great use of the facilities. It’ll bring more activities… I think it’ll do very well here.” – (Barnett)
Andrea Bibby, deputy director of planning, building, and ordinance, presented the project and highlighted how straightforward the proposal was. The project received approval from the design review board and the planning commission, with no exterior changes to the space.
No Noise Concerns and Smooth Approval Process
One of the key concerns for pickleball facilities is noise. However, because the courts will be indoors, Trustee Valerie Murray noted,
“I was glad to see that would not be the case with this facility since it’ll all be indoors.” – (Valerie Murray)
The project received a favorable review from all departments involved, including the assessing, police, fire, engineering, and environmental services departments.
Additionally, a shared parking study concluded that the existing 347 parking spaces would be sufficient for Ace Pickleball and the building’s offices. Matthew Sosin, the applicant for the project, expressed excitement about the approval.
“We’re really excited. It’s been a really smooth process.” – (Matthew Sosin)
Sosin also emphasized that Ace Pickleball’s focus would be solely on the sport, with no major changes planned for the space.
Membership and Offerings
Ace Pickleball plans to operate as a membership-based facility, offering various membership options. Although they will not be applying for a liquor license, the venue will sell snacks like energy bars and drinks, including Gatorade and water. For corporate events or birthday parties, visitors can bring their food.
