Lake City’s New Pickleball Courts Now Open to the Public Despite Challenges

Lake City’s New Pickleball Courts: Residents of Lake City, South Carolina, gathered on Friday, March 1, 2025, at Old Lions Park on Charles Street to celebrate the grand opening of a brand-new pickleball and tennis court complex. Despite construction challenges, the project is now complete, offering the community much-needed recreational space.

Overcoming Construction Challenges

The development of the new pickleball courts faced several obstacles, including renovation issues caused by an old baseball field and pool. Additionally, cold weather delayed some aspects of construction. However, after weeks of effort, crews were able to complete the project, allowing eager players to take to the courts.

“It’s a growing sport. We’ve really seen it take off as we have completed some of these projects and open them up,” said Nathan Dawsey, Florence County’s parks and recreation director.
