Pickleball Thrives in Alabaster: Alabaster residents now have an opportunity to take their pickleball game to the next level with the formation of the Alabaster Pickleball Club. The new club, introduced by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, aims to provide a competitive and structured environment for players of all skill levels.
“Since pickleball has grown so much in the area in the past few years, and now that we have 14 courts… we wanted to offer something that would allow (locals) to be able to play against people of their own abilities in more of a competitive setting,” said Alabaster Parks and Recreation Director Tim Hamm.
“Our plan is to offer the league within the club and give rewards out and things like that.” – (Tim Hamm)
Dedicated Courts and Exclusive Play Times
Alabaster currently boasts 14 pickleball courts—eight at Veterans Park and six at Patriots Park. Members of the Alabaster Pickleball Club will have access to reserved playtimes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Players can book courts through the Pickleplay app.
“Within those preferred times, we plan to offer types of leagues depending on our registration.” – (Tim Hamm)
Leagues and Competition Format
The club plans to offer various divisions, including singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. The city will rotate games between Veterans Park and Patriots Park, depending on participation levels and community interest.
Inspired by Other Local Pickleball Leagues
The creation of the Alabaster Pickleball Club was influenced by similar initiatives in nearby municipalities.
“We’ve talked to people over in Trussville, we’ve talked to people down in Auburn (and) we’ve looked at numerous different pickleball leagues online to try to gather up all different ideas. And as we see need for certain things that we’re not offering, we’ll be able to look at that and implement those as we see what best fits our community.” – (Hamm)
Membership Details and Registration
The club is open to individuals aged 16 and older. Participants must create an account on the Pickleplay app to join. Annual registration is $30 and includes a club T-shirt.
With structured leagues, dedicated court time, and a growing local interest in the sport, the Alabaster Pickleball Club is set to become a hub for competitive and recreational players.
