New Indoor Pickleball Facility Opens in Melfa with Lessons and Memberships

Pickleball Facility Opens in Melfa: Pickleball enthusiasts on Virginia’s Eastern Shore now have a dedicated indoor facility with the opening of Pickleball at the Hub in Melfa. Founded by longtime friends Helen Pruitt and Caitlyn Terry, the facility is part of a converted agricultural and seafood complex, offering a much-needed year-round pickleball space for the region.

Flexible, Player-Friendly Courts

The facility features flex courts that are easier on the knees compared to traditional outdoor concrete surfaces. Large doors provide natural ventilation in warmer months, making the space comfortable for all-weather play.

Since opening, membership numbers have surged in just 30 days, highlighting the demand for indoor pickleball in the community.

Welcoming Newcomers to the Sport

Pickleball at the Hub is designed to be accessible for players of all skill levels, offering:

  • Beginner and intermediate lessons led by coach Mike Fono.
  • Loaner paddles and indoor balls for first-time players.
  • A day pass system, allowing visitors to test out the courts before committing to a membership.

Membership and Scheduling

  • Open daily from 8 AM – 8 PM, catering to early risers, after-work players, and weekend enthusiasts.
  • Scheduling managed via TeamReach, an app that allows members to reserve courts, find playing partners, and join open play sessions.
  • Membership options include monthly and annual plans, with an annual membership averaging just $20 per month.

A Community-Driven Success

Pickleball at the Hub has attracted players from across the Eastern Shore, including Chincoteague, Wachapreague, and area country clubs.
